Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors

Classes
Are you a parent, caregiver, or guardian?

AP/OD classes provide leadership curriculum that will ensure your children build strong foundations in math, reading, technology, health and more. You will be able to take this class to provide these skills to your children as well as informing you about the best possible foundation for your child. 

Time commitment: Meetings once a week for 10 weeks 

Outcomes: Taking this class will strengthen your parent leadership skills. Learning objectives include: early literacy, bilingualism, early math, positive use of technology, attendance, civic engagement, goal setting, and planning for family success.

Facilitator Trainings
Are you an educator, early childhood partner, or parent leader? 

PCA is the only Train the Trainer organization in New Mexico, training new AP/OD facilitators in person across the state. In the 3rd Edition Program Acquisition Institute, participants will learn how to provide the AP/OD curriculum directly to parents/families with children 0-5. 

Time commitment: Three full-day trainings

Outcomes: You will understand the training curriculum and will be able to teach it to other parents and caregivers. The training will teach you how to implement the curriculum effectively to your community.

THE (Training Home Educators) Accelerator

Partnership for Community Action has teamed up with Growing Up New Mexico and WESST to bring New Mexicans a business accelerator program for home educators. This program caters to those who care for children professionally or would like to. It aims to help applicants to open a childcare business out of their homes. We believe in supporting home educators in the state of New Mexico both through training and peer support.

  • The 2024 session runs from January to June 2024
  • Orientation is in December
  • 2-3 hour a week commitment 
  • Graduates will receive $1000+ in stipends for completion of the program
  • Previous graduates are welcome to apply (not eligible for a stipend)!

Deadline to apply for the 2023 - 2024 cohort is October 19, 2023!

Community Organizations

Generation Justice is a multimedia journalism organization that harnesses the power of young people to tell the stories of community through things like blogs, social media, and their weekly radio show. 

Together for Brothers offers programming to boys and young men of color to mentor and promote leadership, justice and change in Albuquerque and the greater New Mexico community. 

Brought by Growing Up New Mexico, the Family Leadership Council promotes parents and caregivers of children aged 0-5 to create plans for improving our early childhood work in the community.
